During the segment with the president of the Parents’ Television Council on C-Span’s Washington Journal this AM a caller came up with the novel idea that maybe, more important than the goal of less violence and sex on TV it would be more beneficial if there were rules requiring media reporters and guests to tell the truth. The Parents’Television Council rep ducked that suggestion by responding that the Council’s issue was with entertainment television, but the truth-telling notion struck me as a truly original, pioneering idea at a time when so many factually inaccurate remarks, both unintentional and malicious, go unchallenged by people who should and do know better as well as a complacent press corps.
