We find ourselves living in an age of unreason where dubious claims, accusations and beliefs are often accepted as fundamentally sound matters for debate. Birthers continue to rant about where the president was born; Arizona even tried to pass a law requiring presidential candidates to present their birth certificates in order to appear on the ballot in Arizona. The legislation, lacking support in the Senate, has been set aside.
Far right religious zealots accuse the administration of waging war on Christianity while oil magnates say their industry remains our best, most responsible energy resource for the foreseeable future despite the current unfortunate hitch in an otherwise exemplary business paradigm. It’s hard to say which is the more absurd position. But advocates in both camps are hard at work trying to make their views seem reasonable.
